First of all, this is a realization. I’m not going crazy, or planning to shoot up a school/public place. So leave me alone.

As a Psychology major, I have been taught to think critically, or think outside the box. I chose psychology because it came natural to me. I always put myself in someone else’s shoes or treated people like I want to be treated- you know, the normal things we were taught as children. Seeing all these shootings and killings, especially on school property/college campuses, made me wonder (probably like everyone else) “what the hell happened”. I can’t put myself in these people’s shoes, because it seems like there is a darkside I’d have to cross into. But as much as it happens and the news reports it, “Shooting at the University of Blah Blah”, people begin to think: “again?”

What happened to these people?

I can’t speak on anyone’s childhood or past events that’s led to them taking it out on the world, but I can say for college students- I can see one reason why they go crazy. Lack of friends/someone to talk to. Everyone needs friends, right? Hell, when things get rough, too many papers due, midterm, that “oh shit am I failing” feeling, etc. etc. you gotta have someone to talk to. Don’t hold it in. And I am the Queen of holding stuff in. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to jump out the window or hang myself because shit just seemed like it was piling up. Especially when you have that one teacher who doesn’t believe in double space, you have to write 5 pages of single space bullshit. Let me tell you, its getting harder and harder to write original stuff, so everything that is written has a citation. If you plagiarize, your ass is kicked out. Then you want to blow up the college and all the professors/teachers within. That’s where talking comes in. You gotta vent to someone- friends, counselors, that random person right there. ANYBODY. Please don’t be afraid to express feelings- guys… It doesn’t make you less manly, I’d rather you bust out and talk to me than bust out and shoot at me… Another thing, you have to be on top of schoolwork, and important documents! I’m still an undergrad, transferring back to a 4 year, and it was so many documents I had to gather, so much money I had to pay, one school wanted to lose documents- which made me angry- but didn’t want to give me my money back; I had to walk all over the place to pay for something then take it back to another place. It gets frustrating, then you want to blow up the college. Stay on top of things!! Deadlines too. Its no use in stabbing the teacher or fellow classmates because you forgot a paper. Ask to turn it in later, BEG to turn it in later, if its a small percentage of your grade, screw it- you’ll know next time to do better.

I guess my point is to talk to someone before it gets to the point where you have a belt around your neck, gun to your head, or gun to other innocent people… Don’t hold it in. Please.
